Snake Removal
Unfortunately, some of these are venomous.
Great caution is advised when removing snakes from areas and is better left to seasoned professionals as a bite from a venomous snake can be poisonous. Fortunately, most snake bites in Texas occur accidentally in rural areas where an unsuspecting bystander either mistakes a venomous snake for a no venomous snake or inadvertently steps on a snake.
To best identify a snake as venomous or not it is always good to take a picture first specifically of the pattern and head and location (where the snake was found). Do not attempt to pick up or poke at a snake. If a snake has bitten someone and it appears to be a venomous bite aka two fang prints when possible, killing the snake or careful capturing is ideal for the hospital for antivenom treatments. Unfortunately, most hospitals do not carry antivenom due to the exorbitant cost and lack of coverage by insurance companies. So, it is better to avoid getting bit altogether. For animals that are bitten, it is best to take the animal to a vet immediately.
Dead snakes can still bite, and many bites occur when someone has perceived to kill a venomous snake and picks it up resulting in a bite.
